Helldorado (2007)
* Helldorado is a nickname for the boomtown of Tombstone, Arizona in the violent silver-mining days of the early 1880's. The reference is to a newspaper letter of the period. In July 1881, a disgruntled miner wrote the Tombstone Nugget newspaper stating that instead of finding their "Eldorado" of riches, many mining men ended up washing dishes or other menial jobs, finding instead, "Helldorado". The term stuck.
Helldorado is Tombstone's oldest festival celebrating its rip-roaring days of the 1880's. Started in 1929, the festival is now sponsored by Helldorado, Inc. whose membership is composed of residents in Cochise County. Helldorado is held on the third weekend of every October (loosely corresponding to the date of the O.K. Corral gunfight) and consists of gunfight re-enactment shows, street entertainment, fashion shows and a family-oriented carnival.
